The OEI 913 is a fully integrated enhancement system with video monitors
enclosed in a portable suitcase container.
- Open case and connect line cord plug to 120 VAC.
- Unstrap the video camera and connect the camera's signal cable
to the left " External Video Source Connector" located on the left
panel in the lower portion of the case. Set the "External Video Toggle
Switch" to the left. Set up the camera stand and platform, this
is stored between the bars in the case and the Sony MUX. Attach the camera
to the stand with the lens pointing down.
- Turn on the "Main Power Switch" located on the
power strip in-between the two video monitors in the upper portion of the case.
- The OEI 307 and OEI 180 should default to "Live"
and "Bypass" modes. If these modes are not illuminated, use the
pushbuttons to set the functions to Live and Bypass. The Live and Bypass
modes pass the video with no processing. Set the toggle switches under the
OEI 180 to "Manual" and "PRE".
- Set the Sony MUX to Ch 1 and LIVE only. The video
camera's image should be displayed in the two monitors. Place a page of paper,
which has printed text on it, under the camera. Focus the lens on the camera
to achieve the best focus of the text in the image.

- Set the OEI 307 Gain to full clockwise (3), and the Enhancement
mode to "Linear". Engage the OEI 307 Enhancement. "Monitor2"
will display the processed image. Adjust the OEI 307 offset to adjust
the enhancement level. For example: the details in the darker portions of
the image may be adjusted brighter.
- Enhancement at higher gains can bring up noise artifacts from the
original signal, engage the OEI 307 "Average" mode to reduce this
noise.
- Set the OEI 307 back to "Live" and "Bypass".
Repeat steps 6 and 7 with the OEI 180 to verify the same processing functions
using the OEI 180.
- Zoom functions (fixed 2:1) may be done using the Sony MUX.
The zoom positions are preset at OEI, however may be changed by the user if needed.
To activate the zoom function press the zoom button on the Sony MUX (Ch 1
should already be selected). Ch 1 is pre-set for a 2:1 zoom in the upper left
portion of the original image. The zoomed-in image will be displayed on Monitor2.
To select another channel, de-activate the zoom function first. Select Ch
2 and press the Zoom button to activate the zoom in the upper right portion of the
original image corresponding to the Ch 2 zoom pre-set. Ch 3 zoom is pre-set
for the lower left portion of the original image. Ch 4 zoom preset will display
the lower right portion of the original signal.
- Any combination of processing techniques described above may be
used together to achieve the desired image enhancement required for your application.
